People’s Choice Award

Mentor Arabia Youth Empowerment Film & Song Competition

On October 24, 2022, our first original song “Rise Again | ”بداية جديدة, received the People’s Choice Award at the Mentor Arabia Youth Empowerment Film & Song Competition in Jordan. This song was written and composted by our YACtivist Ali El Chaabi, to reflect the realities of youth facing corruption. Rooted in YAC’s belief in artivism, the song used music as a tool for resilience, healing and rising again.

National Recognition Award

Honoring recognized Anti-Corruption youth initiatives

On 13 May 2024, YAC received a National Recognition Award from the Government of Lebanon in acknowledgment of our anti-corruption efforts since 2018. The award affirmed our consistency, credibility, and growing national impact, while also reinforcing our responsibility toward the work still ahead. In response, we issued a public statement underscoring that recognition alone is not the end goal. Real celebration will come only when reforms are implemented, laws are enforced, and governance in Lebanon becomes transparent, accountable, and just for the generations to come.

Until then, we will genuinely not be able to consider any National Recognition as worthy of Celebration.

It is indeed important to acknowledge anti-corruption initiatives, particularly in a context in which corruption has brought a whole nation down on its knees and is making youth pay the high price of corruption in their daily lives. Lebanese youth are struggling with significant challenges: one out of four suffers from depression, a vast majority was forced to immigrate, and those who remain often juggle multiple jobs to sustain themselves and their families. Dreams are overshadowed by economic hardship, leading to increased dropout rates in educational institutions due to financial constraints. More significantly than recognizing their efforts, it is imperative to focus on enacting robust anti-corruption reforms and ensuring strict enforcement of anti-corruption laws. Implementing the National Anti-Corruption Strategy is crucial but it is not enough. The youth of our nation aspire for a government that operates with integrity, an independent judiciary system, and parliamentarians dedicated to prioritizing the nation's wellbeing. Until then, we will consider any national acknowledgment as unworthy of celebration. Hence, we urge the Government of Lebanon to prioritize anti-corruption reforms and to hold every individual, institution, and organization accountable for undermining the development and well-being of our nation. Only then, can we envision celebrating together the attainment of a significant national milestone in the anti-corruption agenda.
